Consumer Advocacy Groups Fight Back TCPA Exemptions

Dear Friends of The Docket Digest,
Many consumer advocacy groups made the trip to the Hill to fight back against the Edison Electric Institute’s petition. Then there was the one targeting the E-Commerce Innovation Alliance’s petition but it didn’t address safe harbor.
Days like today highlight the challenge in stopping unwanted calls and texts. Without the TCPA, consumer groups argue, it would be open season on the public. Businesses, on the other hand, feel the TCPA is too punitive and draconian, leaving no room to account for the varied and legitimate uses of calls and texts.
And yet, the bad guys don’t care about either side. They just keep attacking the network.
